“From start to finish, this class is fantastic, and suited particularly for individuals with little to no experience with handguns. Dave is an extremely knowledgeable and thoughtful instructor who continually underscores safety and fun while-gratefully-omitting pressure and politics. He carefully explains and demonstrate the various basics of holding, loading, aiming, and firing a pistol, and is patient with those of us who don’t catch on so quickly when it’s our turn. The day culminates with a trip to the local shooting range, where-due to the exciting and unfamiliar environment-one’s brain promptly dumps everything it was instructed just a short while ago. Never fear! Dave is there, setting up targets, reminding, and encouraging each client to focus on the essentials taught throughout the day. It was a tremendous ride, fascinating and informative, and above all, fun! Bravo and thank you, Dave!”

“As someone who was genuinely terrified of guns, this class provided insight into a topic that I truly did not fully understand. Dave was an excellent teacher, facilitating a content-packed class in an intimate judgment-free setting. I appreciated how the class remained apolitical, focusing, rather, on a culture of safety. I would absolutely recommend this course to anyone nervous about or scared around guns!”

“David provided an informational and extensive two days of pistol safety and Shotgun for Home Defense course in an enjoyable way. I was able to apply a lot of the classroom lessons and practice in the gun range with his guidance and supervision. Dave is a really funny and badass instructor and I’m much more confident going into my journey towards gun ownership!”

“I highly recommend Left of Center Gun School for anyone who is curious to learn the ins and outs of handling a firearm responsibly. The pistol and shotgun class was my introduction to understanding firearms and firearm safety. I took this class with some close friends and it was such an amazing and enjoyable experience to have together. We are still discussing what we’ve learned, how we see ourselves proceeding with all that we have learned, and just having the important “what-if” conversations that everyone should have with their loved ones. Dave Selmo and Erin Quigley are such lovely instructors with an abundance of knowledge, patience and fun, positive energy. I can’t say it enough, what a great experience!”

“WOW! What an amazing, informative and just plain fun experience I had at the “Left of Center Gun School”! Being a single woman, I am always interested in learning different ways to protect myself in our society. I was hesitant at first… because I had never even touched a gun before. But, Erin and Dave created such a comfortable and supportive classroom environment that I was immediately put at ease. They are a great team. My life has been significantly changed since taking this class. Armed with the knowledge of gun safety and use I have found a new confidence that is truly priceless!  TAKE THIS CLASS!”

“My experience was good and fun-filled throughout the entire class. I was able to learn an immense amount of diverse information. All of the fundamentals you can think of when wanting to learn about firearms and how to properly handle them was covered. I feel that this course is helpful for both those who have no experience and those who do. I would wholeheartedly recommend this course.”

“This course was NO JOKE!  Wow!  I learned sooooo much.  I am so glad we all agreed to not only take your course but to do the NRA online portion.  I HIGHLY recommend it for everyone who has access to or will own/operate a pistol.  Thanks again David (and Erin!)”

“Originally, I thought my lifelong super liberal aunt had finally lost her mind. Teach me to shoot a gun? And learn from an NRA member? Insanity. Little did I know that with proper, professional instruction and an open mind my opinions towards firearms has shifted. I now not only feel entirely comfortable handling a firearm, but I understand the power and responsibility that comes with these lessons. The instructors were patient, knowledgeable, and most importantly understood who they were teaching. I highly recommend this class to anybody who is nervous around firearms. There is no pressure to join a club, purchase any firearm, or in any other way be invested in gun culture. It truly is as simple as learning how to be safe around guns!”

“When my friend asked if I wanted to participate in an apolitical pistol training course my first reaction was of course! But being a lifelong Democrat I had never entertained the thought of owning any kind of weapons let alone being trained to use one. The idea of firearms was scary to me. But when this came up, I suddenly got almost excited about the opportunity – most specifically because it was apolitical. To me it seemed like an important life skill. From beginning to end David was thorough , responsive to my fears, and respectful of my political leanings.  I learned a lot and actually gained some real insight into responsible gun ownership. I’m grateful for that. He knew I was REALLY frightened at the range and got me to slow down and begin to feel more comfortable firing pistols. I would definitely recommend him to others like me. Will I go out and buy a firearm? Probably not. But I do appreciate the training and I appreciate his calm measured and respectful approach. Plus he’s funny!”

“Having attended Left of Center Gun School, I now feel at ease and confident when handling a pistol. Instructor, Dave Selmo, who has a military and law enforcement background, brings a wealth of experience to the classroom and is a very capable teacher. I found both the classroom and range time extremely beneficial in elevating my limited gun skills to a point of expertise that every gun owner should possess.”

“I wasn’t sure what to expect going into a gun class having never used one before, but I was quickly put at ease with your professionalism and thorough knowledge of firearms. Because of this class, I now feel extremely comfortable handling firearms and using them safely and effectively. I would absolutely recommend this class to everyone, as it is important, immersive, and fun.”

“Can’t say enough great things about your Left of Center gun school! Had a blast (literally) and learned some great skills. Loved the fact that it didn’t matter what my world view was, all that mattered was the skills. I learned a lot this weekend… even more than the firearms… Worth the 6 hour drive.

Thanks Dave!!!!”

“We had such a great time at Left of Center Gun school!  So much great information and wonderful knowledge by David.  Regardless of political views or feelings about guns- I just want to be comfortable since we have guns in our home. I am no longer afraid, understand that they are a “tool” and feel so much more confident.  The equipment and tools in class were amazing, building confidence and learning the ropes of using a handgun and how to be safe at all times is an amazing feeling! Best thing I’ve done for myself since March!”

“Just a short note to thank you both so much for bringing your terrific class to us!. All three of us had a great day, learned so much and certainly allayed fears that I had. David, you are just an excellent instructor, generous, interesting and patient. But the biggest, unexpected bonus was Liam’s experience (age 26). His birthday was this past Sat. and when he spoke to his Aunt Julie and his godmother, Carolyn on the phone he chatted for about a half hour telling them all about his experience. It’s very rare that he is that animated and enthusiastic about something that he’s ACCOMPLISHED. It really gave him so much confidence in himself. That was worth everything to me.”

“This REALLY is not your typical gun course – the instructor was organized, knowledgeable and entertaining – I never ONE time felt out of place politically or otherwise. It is a course with a lot information and practice that makes you feel informed not just about safety and technique, but terminology and a bit of history. Not only would I take this course again, but will recommend to others! Thanks Dave and Erin!”

“Shooting a gun seemed antithetical to my nature. However, the opportunity came up thru friends & I tried. The class instruction was informative, fun, & the shooting challenging. I’m glad I tried something new. My true nature held steady, but I can relate better to gun enthusiasts & folks that feel like they need protection.”

“I’m a die-hard Leftie, I don’t own a gun, and don’t plan to buy one.  But as a responsible adult, I felt I needed to understand guns, how they work, and how to use one. Left of Center provided me with valuable information and hands-on experience, easing my intimidation. David and Erin made the course fun and interesting. The actual firing of the guns was enlightening and thrilling, and I always felt totally safe under their watchful guidance.  I recommend the course highly.”

“I have taken a few gun glasses in the past for my occupation.  This was the best of them all.  Small classes, hands-on training, no preaching other san SAFETY SAFETY AND MORE SAFETY.   I can’t recommend David enough and his associate Erin.  I don’t own and have never owned a firearm.   But coming in as an outsider I believe owners and people thinking of purchasing a firearm would be better qualified and informed than they are now.”

“Your classroom demonstrations and hands-on training were thorough and easily understood.  I feel I can handle many types of weapons safely and comfortably.  Followed by the time at the gun range, the students all now know how to safely fire several types of pistols. The classroom and range time, combined with the completion of the NRA online course, has made me a safe, capable and knowledgeable pistol shooter.  Thank you for the training!”

“Great class for beginners and refreshing your old skills. Drilling in safety and using a very intimidating laser tool along with awesome in-class electronic aiming devices helped me a lot and it showed on the range. The small class size is great for getting plenty of one-on-one help. On the range my comfort and aim improved tremendously.  Now practice practice practice!!”

“Having never handled a weapon before, I was very nervous stepping into this gun safety class. I had a strong fear of guns and was not sure I’d be able to overcome it. But, the way in which Dave taught the class, calmed my fears and enabled me to learn the basics of handling and shooting a firearm. The classroom demonstrations and exercises were fun and very helpful in lessening my fears. I now feel comfortable loading, unloading and shooting a pistol safely. Thanks, Dave, for a great class…I highly recommend it!”

“My entire life I was petrified of guns until I took Left of Center’s certification class!  In this one-day certification, Instructor David Selmo teaches you, at your own pace, how to safely handle and fire a gun.  It’s a super fun class and because of it I will never be afraid to confidently pick up any gun and fire it safely. Everything is one price and includes guns, ammo, great class materials, and a comprehensive workbook. Thanks again for an amazing day!”

“I signed up for the pistol course at Left of Center Gun School initially because I had been afraid of the power of a firearm. I had shot one in the past, and I recognized then just how scary it could be to simply hold one. The informational learning of this course is in-depth and intensive: beginning with an online course, moving to handling the firearms in the comfort of a home environment, and then going to the range to actually shoot at targets. I now feel confident to shoot both revolvers and semi-automatics, and know how to successfully handle a firearm. And, I’m now pistol certified with the NRA. The bonus of the entire experience was that I really enjoyed it. Surprisingly, it was a lot of fun! It makes you feel stronger to be confident of something you were once afraid of, and I look forward to continuing my education.”

“LOC’s Practical Shotgun class solves a problem facing the majority of firearms classes: It offers plenty of opportunity to shoot and learn to be comfortable with a shotgun! Many classes are too heavy with non-shooting drills which seems good in theory, but you can leave the class without building a true comfort level shooting live rounds. In Practical Shotgun, we shot upwards of 80 rounds of bird shot, buck shot, and slugs. We learned different techniques for loading, as well as the mandatory basic safety and handling stuff. This was a fun course!  I’d recommend it if you want more extensive range time than most courses!”

“Hey Dave, thanks so much for such a fun and educational day. I went from never having fired a shotgun to feeling very confident in handling the weapon. By the end of the course, I felt like I could load the gun quickly in different situations and shoot it accurately while on the move. I also felt like I was handling the gun in a much safer manner than at the beginning of the class. Thanks again for such a great day!”

“I’m a woman working in the film industry, who had never even handled a firearm. I’ve taken both pistol and shotgun courses with Left of Center.  Before taking the Practical Shotgun course I felt nervous, but it turned out to be so much fun! David thoroughly covered safe handling, loading, unloading and how to comfortably fire and reload a tactical pump shotgun. After introducing some important basics, he taught techniques that helped us combine instinct, safety and practical skills. I don’t want to spoil the fun by sharing too many details, but the well-planned exercises that took place at the outdoor range were surprising, challenging and a total blast to engage in. I simultaneously got to feel like a badass, while also realizing I need a lot more practice to actually become a badass! I’ll definitely be taking more classes.”

“Several of my friends recommended LOC and David Selmo. Some of them know him personally, and some have taken his classes. I’m so glad I took their advice. I am someone who was a bit afraid of guns and I felt like the fear mitigation part of the class was what I most needed. But Dave was what I most needed. He was so kind and understanding about my apprehension. He immediately made me feel comfortable and gave me so much personal attention. I loved learning from him, and I can’t wait to meet him at the range again for LOC range nights. My husband and I are going to sign up for his shot gun class. I would absolutely recommend LOC and especially Dave.”

“I’m a first-time gun owner and had never shot a revolver before.  I had a private lesson with David, and he immediately got me comfortable with the gun and taught me how to fire it safely and responsibly.  He also took me to the range and showed me the proper range protocol.  My first shot was a bullseye!  Thanks David.”
